Sarpo Mira Seed Potatoes are a remarkable maincrop variety, renowned for their exceptional resistance to blight and outstanding yields. With their smooth red skin and creamy-white flesh, Sarpo Mira potatoes are ideal for roasting, baking, and mashing. This reliable and hardy variety is perfect for organic gardeners and those seeking a robust potato that thrives with minimal chemical inputs.

Key Features:

  • Maincrop Variety: Sarpo Mira potatoes mature in approximately 20 weeks, delivering a heavy harvest late in the season.

  • Blight Resistant: Unmatched resistance to both foliage and tuber blight, making it a top choice for organic and low-maintenance growers.

  • Versatile Use: Excellent for roasting, baking, and mashing, with a firm texture that holds its shape well during cooking.

  • High Yield: Produces a prolific crop of large, uniform tubers, ideal for both home gardeners and allotment growers.

  • Long Storage Life: Sarpo Mira stores very well, maintaining its quality over the winter months.

Growing Instructions:

Plant maincrop potatoes from March. Before planting, 'chit' the seed potatoes by setting them out in a cool, bright position (around 10°C / 50°F) to allow them to sprout.

When growing maincrop potatoes in the ground, avoid planting in soil where potatoes have grown for two years in a row to reduce the risk of disease. Choose a sheltered site in full sun with moist, well-drained soil, and dig in plenty of well-rotted manure. Plant the seed potatoes in rows, spacing them 45cm (18") apart, with rows 75cm (2', 6") apart. Place the tubers in 10cm (4") deep trenches and cover with soil. Once the shoots reach 20cm (8"), mound the soil around them, leaving just a few centimetres visible. Repeat this earthing-up process after another three weeks.

For limited garden space, consider growing potatoes in bags. Fill an 8-litre potato bag with high-quality compost mixed with well-rotted manure, leaving some space at the top. Carefully plant a single chitted tuber with the shoots facing upwards at a depth of 12cm (5") from the soil surface. Position the bags in a sunny spot and water regularly to keep the compost moist.

By following these steps, you'll enjoy a reliable and abundant harvest of Sarpo Mira Seed Potatoes, perfect for all your culinary needs, even in challenging growing conditions!
